As the Toy Fairs all over the world take place, new images come to our attention. 
Bellow a few images from the NXT 2.0, published by Pocket-lint from Toy Fair 2009, UK.
At left side a more detailed picture from the new Alpha Rex design and at right an image from the NXT-G software, suggesting some new kind of remote control ability through BT, I guess.
Perhaps some new feature on NXT-G 2.0 recently announced, or something even newer!?
Bellow you can see also a video posted at YouTube, demonstrating the NXT 2.0 color sorter robot, which somehow failed.

I have had the impression from the very first day I acquired my NXT set that the old Mindstorms had more potential. My main problem is that the NXT elements (motors and sensors) are _REALLY_ bulky. I guess that's why we are seeing much more creations using powerfunctions than NXT... But anyway, being an unconditional fan, I'll end up buying it anyway :)
Personally, I always feel RCX-based constructions lack "precision", because the motors don't have position/speed feedback. For some applications, like small mobile robots, that isn't a problem, but for others, like a robotic arm, it's important; and therefore bigger motors, with room for feedback (and some gear reduction, too), are better.
Anyway, I just hope this new version brings more novelties than just an updated software, a new sensor and some panels!
I understand both of your comments. Actually, if you look at the internals of an NXT motor, it is just big for the sake of being big. The reduction chain could have been implemented in half of the space. I think they thought that the motors could be used as structural elements too. Which I've seen lots of constructions do.
So, the motors are still ok. I'd like them a bit smaller, but that's fine. However, the sensors are just unusable. Specially the touch one. I used to use lots of small touch sensors everywhere in my constructions, and with the new huge ones that is not possible anymore...
