Price hints for the 2H Technic sets

Prices and more prices...

The South African Kiddywinks toy store website lists the prices for the 2H2010 LEGO Technic sets which will release there by next August. With that we can finally  have an approximate figure about how much the next 8043 (Excavator) flagship will cost us.

  • R2.102,00 - 8043, Excavator
  • R1.277,00 - 8053, Mobile Crane
  • R787,00 - 8052, Container Truck
  • R495,00 - 8051, Motorbike

Listed prices are in South African Rands (ZAR).
We here also listing their prices for the 1H Technic sets and some 2009 relevant sets, whose prices didn't get reductions yet. Thus you can have a perception of what the values above could mean in terms of your local currency.
  • R125,00 - 8045, Telehandler
  • R184,00 - 8046, Helicopter
  • R241,00 - 8047, Compact Excavator
  • R376,00 - 8048, Buggy
  • R644,00 - 8049, Tractor with Log Loader
  • R1.180,00 - 8265, Front Loader (now above the R1.080,00 forecasted in December 2008)
  • R1.984,00 - 8258, Crane Truck (now above the R1.800,00 forecasted in December 2008)

Generally for presumably the same type of sets, there seems to be a noticeable price hike. Nevertheless the 2H sets may have also an increased partcount, relative to those in 2009, which is still too early to know about.

For your convenience and to make it easier compare prices against your local currency, below there is also a table with actual S@H prices for the 1H Technic sets and again the same from 2009, as above.
Please note that individual price comparative ratios may not match exactly, when comparing across different currencies.

Edit:
Jetro, just shown me another website from an Italian online LEGO store, listing the 2H prices in Euros.
Thus a much closer reference for many of us!

There, the prices are:
  • 8043 - 164,99€
  • 8053 - 99,99€
  • 8052 - 60,00€
  • 8051 - 39,99€

Us Brits will get the shaft as usual.. :( I bet the new Excavator is £150UK.

Hmmm. I wonder where the "supposedly new" 8053 Crane is in that list.
You can see it at: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=413655

It is! Look at it better. ;)

The second line.

Conchas,
I have something to point out about the leaked box of the new "Mobile Crane".

If you look at the picture where the hook would be hanging down, it initially looks like a strange mechanical device is hanging from the crane instead of a hook.

However, if you look closely it looks like you can see a white arrow on the it and that it isn't a strange mechanical device at all, but more of a logo or symbol? Maybe I am imagining things, but it could be a symbol, like for Power or something. I know they normally have an orange band on the right side of the box for Power, but it could be something else. A new function type?

Also, if you look at the bottom right image of the box where the crane is stretched out, you can clearly see a normal hook hanging from the crane, which backs my thoughts up a little more.

What do you think?

Conchas said...

There is nothing special about it.
It is like a double hook made of regular Technic elements, I can assure you!

Good it will be if the wheels that guide the string cable, would be of a type, that won't allow the string to pull off so easily as usual.
I think this might be the case.

No, I'm talking about the BIG list of prices.

RjbsNXT said...

At a conversion through Google, the 8043 will be about £180 :(

Conchas said...

@Jojoguy10

None of the 2H sets are on that list, because it only contains sets actually being sold by LEGO.

@RjbsNXT

Definitely you can't just apply the exchange rate to guess the price in your currency. There are a lot other factors, that will influence the prices.

RjbsNXT said...

True, Britain will most likely be cheaper than South Africa for a start, and the 8275 was £100, so about £150 might be a sound guess.

About the price hike - also while Excavator might not contain more parts than the 8258 Crane Truck (actually I'm putting my bet that it will contain less parts than 8258), in any case it will contain far more electronics than 8258. That'll steep the price too.. and I think that 8053 is bigger than 8265 Front Loader.

I'll most probably miss the flagship *again*, though.. unlike you guys I wish it was smaller. :(

how much would the 8053 cost in USD?

Anonymous said...

@Gray

Look at the DATA:

R1.277,00 - 8053, Mobile Crane
R1.180,00 - 8265, Front Loader

8053 Costs a bit more than 8265

United States
USD
10.99 8045
19.99 8046
24.99 8047
39.99 8048
59.99 8049
59.99 8041
79.99 8265
149.99 8258

8265 = $79.99, a bit more would be $85

Was that so hard?

I think the excavator will be slightly more than 8258, around £140 / $170. 8053 will probably be similar to 8265 or 8295 (8295 is the telescopic handler from 2008).

8043 will without a doubt include less pieces than 8258. I would guess around 1300, similar to the bulldozer (8275).

I probably won't get 8043, unless it is as well priced as 8275, which included an equivalent of 1300 parts for only £35 (once you've subtracted the S@H prices for PF elements).

@anon

no that did not help at all. i mean prices for 2h sets not the ones i already own.

Conchas said...

But that's what he tried to explain, how to figure out.

Obviously definite prices for 2H are not yet know, at this point in time.

Jojoguy10 said...

In the edit section of this post, the price for 8043 is 164,99 Euro's. Is that the same as 164.99 (added the decimal point). Because, WITH the decimal point, it comes around to $250!!! Is this "set in stone"? I hope not! Why is 8043 MORE than the 8053? The Mobile Crane (8053) looks like more pieces to me.
