Is the 8043 Excavator REALLY going to cost over 200 usd? I really can't afford that...
Guess not!
It can't be converted with just the actual exchange rate.
Most propably it will cost the same amount in USD as in EUR - which is the case quite often. So in fact it will be cheaper than here in Europe.
The excavator is overpriced. It is £40 more than the 8275 for 4 linear actuators, an extra PF remote, a bucket, and 200 less pieces.
Hopefully the mobile crane will come down to £60 on Amazon (8265 is now £60 on Amazon, and has even been £50 before).
The Excavator is not overpriced, it is in line with the rest of the current Technic line. In 2007, for £35 you could get an 800 piece set, whereas this year it'll only get you a 400 piece set. The Excavator includes about £70 of PF parts, so you get about 1,100 pieces for another £70.
Prices have gone up across the board. In 2007, the Green Grocer only cost £100, whereas this year's equivelant costs £140.
Saw the excavator at eBay for GBP 240
The cost of PF Parts has not changed at all since they were first released.
8275 had £62 of PF parts (8043 has around £66), leaving £38 for the remaining 1376 pieces (which is very good value). Without the PF parts, 8043 costs £74 for 1116 pieces, which is normal (if not a little expensive).
8043 is actually MORE expensive than buying a 1116 piece set and buying all the PF parts separately. £140 is not a ridiculous price, but is not at all attractive either.
I got the excavator, and let me say right now that even if you consider it expensive for the parts you get, it is still worth it just because of how good it is in and of itself. It is a good, complex build and it functions perfectly.
It easily surpasses the Bulldozer from 2007. It might be a little expensive, but it is very much worth it.
Plus, unlike the Bulldozer, this has a proper B-Model.
Hopefully, I'll have its review online still today. :)
@ Conchas:
Ha! I beat you to it by a few hours! Still, it can't hurt to have more than one review of this masterpiece.
No worries!
Took some hours to sleep. ;D
